Christmas Wishes 2016

Dear Readers,
Thank you so much for reading our Blog, we shall be taking a short break.
We would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and best wishes for 2017!
Christmas Lights in London 2016 from TimeOut London
Christmas Lights on the Strand
The Northbank was the first area in London to get electric street lighting, and The Savoy Theatre was the first public building in the world to be lit entirely by electricity. More than 100 years on and the Strand and nearby Villiers Street will be decorated with London's greenest Christmas lights, powered by a biofuel based on cooking oils collected from London's restaurants. Seriously. Shining from 4pm daily.

How to Wear Vintage Costume Jewellery ...

More this week from the Vintage Modes Blog!

Jewellery is a very personal thing and can also be a reflection of your style. There is nothing that brings a smile to our face like a pretty ring, a jangly necklace, or some sparkly earrings. When it comes to vintage costume jewellery some people struggle to coordinate pieces with their outfits. Colourful bakelite beads or 80s chandelier earrings could be just the thing to make an ordinary outfit outstanding.
To illustrate how to best use vintage jewellery to your fashion advantage, we had a look around Arabella Bianco's stand and found similar examples of pieces worn by celebrities... read more .....

Fashion Deja Vu — Marilyn Monroe Edition

"Nowadays, two big stars wearing the same outfit is a major fashion faux pas, but back in Hollywood’s heyday it was common practice to recycle clothes so the studios could save a few bucks. While many of Marilyn’s dresses and costumes are considered to be style icons, she often wasn’t the first (or the last!) to wear them". By Marijane Gray for Immortal Marilyn

The Ruby is July's Birthstone!

Judy Garland's fabulous ruby slippers in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz

Tiffany published poems for each birthstone month  "of unknown author" in a pamphlet in 1870, this is July's.
The gleaming Ruby should adorn,
All those who in July are born,
For thus they'll be exempt and free,
From lover's doubts and anxiety.

This lovely painting is taken from 'The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady' by Edith Holden. It is a naturalist's diary for the year 1906. The diary lay undiscovered for 70 years, and was first published in 1977. The book is written by hand and the beautiful paintings of birds, butterflies, bees and flowers reflect Edith's love of nature.
